In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
Overall I feel that my media product doesn’t
have the professional feel of other magazines such as Kerrang! or NME, This may
be because of the way I have laid it out and some of the pictures I have taken
look slightly childish. However I do believe that my contents page looks much
more professional than the front page due to the way it is set out and the way
they are positioned.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My media products colors represent a
slight wintery theme due to the light shade of blue and grey tint to the white
also used, the light grey can be used to represent snow and the blue is also
the same color of a winter morning’s sky. The images however can be seen as
being contrasting with the wintery feel as they look darker and stand out
against the light background color, these can represent the rock scene and the
hip-hop scene.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and
why?
My media product may be distributed by
companies such as the BBC or SKY. This would happen due to the fact that larger
businesses and corporations look to make as much money as possible from the
smaller companies that are only just starting up and need sponsors.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The target audience for my media product
is anyone over the age of 14 because I believe that this is the age that you
begin to learn about mature issues and sex education is started to be taught.
Also it is the age when your musical taste may be defined and you realize what
you like and don’t like.
How did you attract/address your audience?
I used some light colors with images that
contrasted to show it is a wintery issue and other things I used to draw
people’s attention to the magazine was large easy to spot advertisements of
what is in the issue, such as posters and information on upcoming festivals.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing
this product?
I have learned how to use photoshop to
some degree such as being able to crop out backgrounds and cropping the images
and rotating them to fit the magazine better. I have also learned how to make a
product that fits the target audience better.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
Overall I feel that I have learned how to
use photoshop to a better degree than I did before I started my media product,
and I have learned how to better set out a front page and contents page that
appeals to the eye and catches people’s attention easier. I have also changed
my layout so it fits other magazines such as Kerrang, NME etc.
